More often, it was pounded a bit, boiled in water for ten to fifteen minutes or twenty minutes and then cooled and drunk. The usual dose, a cupful, was taken before breakfast and again after supper. This treatment was continued until the cold was gone, usually in two or three days. Another method was to take two tablespoonfuls every half hour for one day.
